Empty Envelopes

I am the oldest of 6 kids. That makes me the biggest kid. My baby sister is 10 years younger than me.
She is a girl with a heart of gold. She has always had a lot of challenges. But, she never complains about it.
Aside from her other challenges, she had health challenges as well.
This song is about her, and about how I put some things off....thinking I'd get to it later....you know, sometimes later becomes too late.
An empty envelope
On the corner of the desk
For a letter left unsent
An empty page
On the corner of the desk
Holding all the feelings unexpressed
Going to my sister
Half a world away
Telling her I love her
The empty page was to say
Hey, how are you? I’m thinking of you
You know I hope you’re feeling better
I miss you, I love you, and I’ll see you soon!
Thought I would send it today somehow today turned in to tomorrow
Days went by, the letter sat, You know I was busy…
Then I got the news
Phone call from my brother
Took my breath away
I stared at the letter
There’s no need to send it now
It would never reach her
I had waited, I had waited, I had waited too long
An empty space
On the corner of the desk
For the tears still left unwept
A special place
Inside of my heart
Filled with love she gave to us
From my baby sister
She has gone to rest
She will always know
We love her
